The main objective of this study is the analysis and the evaluation of a sanitation improvement program on the Tunisian littoral coastline envisaged by the National Office for Sanitation (ONAS) to contribute to the depollution of the Mediterranean Sea.
The study examined and analyzed the consistency and relevance of the program and assessed the impacts of the program on the environment and populations while considering the investment priorities and technical capacities of ONAS. It focused on the prioritization of the interventions, the precise estimation of the investments and the operating costs, the assessment of the environmental and social impacts related to the implementation of the program, an economic and financial analysis as well as a plan and timetable for the implementation of the selected program defining the procedures and technical assistance necessary for ONAS to implement the program and its management over time.
The program includes:
- Rehabilitation and extension of 10 treatment plants spread over the entire coastline
- The rehabilitation of 596 km and the extension of 496 km of collection networks
- The rehabilitation of 34 pumping stations and the creation of 45 new pumping stations
